How You Can Help
You can do any of the following to help. Remember to click the button below to tell us how many batteries you have recycled so that we may showcase your contribution on the homepage to encourage many others to do the same and to also add to our 1 million batteries goal. Thank you!
Don't Throw Away Used Batteries
Put aside your used batteries for proper disposal later. The garbage service of your city may already provide free curbside pickup. For example, in my city I just put the batteries in a small plastic bag and place the bag on top of the big recycling bin on the collection day. The garbage collection workers will take care of the rest. Alternatively, your city or county may have drop-off locations for household hazardous waste. Earth911 has a powerful locator to find such a drop-off location near you.
After the drop-off, remember to use the Report Recycled Batteries button above or in the top menu bar to add in your count.

Set Up Collection Boxes
Help others recycle their batteries by leaving collection boxes with them and picking up the boxes when they are filled. Some people may not have access to curbside pickup or time to drive to collection centers. You can help by doing the leg work. You can give used battery collection boxes to your friends or leave the boxes in senior apartments, community centers, and the like, along with your phone number so that they may contact you for pick up when the boxes are full. See our testimonials for your reference.
If there is no "official" battery collection bucket/box from your local collection center, here is a more eco-friendly DIY version along with flyer templates and 1MB logos for your use.

Collect Batteries in Your Neighborhood
You may use a social media platform for your community or pass out a flyer (see an example on the right from a boy scout’s canned food collection initiative) ahead of time to tell your neighbors a specific date and time when you will pick up their used batteries outside their door. See our testimonials for your reference.
Walking around the neighborhood in the fresh air is greener and healthier, too.

Host a Collection Event
A battery collection event is a fun way to raise public awareness and allow more people to join your effort to recycle batteries. We collected 11,000+ batteries within 2 weeks by hosting a schoolwide Battery Recycling Event (see our testimonial).
Here is a presentation regarding how we ran the event with step-by-step suggestions, including:
* the "why batteries" information
* action items and tips in each step
* flyer templates that you can modify for your event
* email templates for event communications and announcements
Hope it will help you get started with your school event! Also, consider creating a local branch to receive support and resources to help you run the event (see the following section). Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Join or Create a Local Branch
Teens Against E-waste (TAE), a student-led nonprofit organization, encourages students to join or found local branches so that you may form a leadership team to carry out the campaign in your locality and receive support and resources from TAE and other branches.
