Why Do We Do This?

Did you know? Americans throw away 3 billion (about 180,000 tons of) batteries each year, making up about 20% of all household hazardous materials in America's landfills. More than 86,000 tons of these are single-use alkaline batteries. Is Canada or EU doing better? Read here to find out.
Why bother to recycle batteries if it is not illegal to throw them to the trash in many states? Read here for how they pollute our environment. Batteries contain corrosive materials and heavy metals that can contaminate the environment. They also contain valuable recyclable resources including non-renewable metals such as lead, nickel, zinc, silver and manganese.
